The Beijing-Hong Kong Forum on IT & Health - Beijing Conference on eHealth 2005, a first conference on e-health co-organized and participated by members of the Steering Committee of IT in Health Programme was held in 25-27 September 2005. This success in cooperation and partnership developed between Mainland China and Hong Kong especially in e-Health data sharing and standardization and on-going and regular communication now being established between Mainland China and Hong Kong have provided a good foundation for a second conference on e-Health to be held in Hong Kong in September 2006.

HIMMS 2006, the annual conference organized by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society this year, provide the opportunity for attendees to learn about the latest industry intelligence, to find solutions to their most pressing professional challenges and to network with peers. Held 12-16 Feb 2006, the event offered even more opportunities for all participants to build their business and to network with today’s most powerful thought leaders and product innovators.

The seminar on "A New Horizon of e-Healthcare Management", Hong Kong Electronic Fair 2006, 14-17 April 2006 was organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and supported by Hong Kong Society of Medical Informatics and Internet Professional Association (iProA).  Presentations on the current status of health informatics in Hong Kong and the progress made by the eHealth Consortium to bring IT and health care professionals together were made to the audience from around the world.

The World Forum "Cities and Quality of Life" in Geneva, held on 18-20 May 2006, shed light on new urban practices, and draw out the priorities of local actors through concrete examples.  Discussions were made on round tables “Smart Cities: transport, mobility, housing, public space” and “The contribution of information technology to Health and Quality of Life”.

The Tromsø Telemedicine and eHealth Conference 2006 in Norway, held on 12-14 Jun 2006, invited those using, developing, studying and producing telemedicine and eHealth services to present their work.  The eHealth Consortium was one of the 26 countries giving presentations to the audience, with paper titled “Three years on – eHealth in Asia and the aftermath of SARS”.  The speech showed the background of the SARS tragedy and the actions taken by governments of the affected areas, which are factors expediting the development of eHealth in Asia.
